Hello!
Well, the weekend is almost officially over. A bit sad. Especially when you have a dentist appointment scheduled for Monday! And especially when said dentist appointment includes surgery. Ugh.
Yep, I am giving the dreaded dental chair about 4 hours of my life tomorrow, starting at 1:00. Wish me luck! I assume I will complain about it a great amount for you tomorrow, which will make me feel much better.
Stay tuned for the exciting recap.
My Saturday/Sunday were fun and relaxing (respectively). Ok, so remember how I said cheese fries at Outback were my fave food ever? I clearly forgot about my OTHER fave food, which found its way into my tummy Saturday night:
Which consists of, you guessed it, greasy goodness!
You may have noticed, ahem, that I don’t eat particularly healthy on the weekends. I figure if I give the five days of the week a solid shot at “healthy” then the other two days I should just get to play! Life is too short, right? SO enter chicken nachos at Champps (where I also used to work). That’s a pile of crispy nachos, shredded cheddar, melted queso, shredded chicken, and salsa (which I completely ignored).
It’s true…I got REALLY obsessed with the food at the places I was a waitress. As in, eat-it-every-day-obsessed. Looking back on it, it probably wasn’t the healthiest job ever. But dinner was SO GOOD!
Now moving on to, as promised…
Shuffleboard! It’s fun. The sign says so.
As I mentioned, people tend to think shuffleboard is more suited to grannies and grandpas with hockey sticks than people in their 20s. But that’s a different kind of game. This one, you slide the pucks down a long table covered with little balls of wax (sound fun yet?
) and try to get it farther than the other team. It’s a little like cornhole, which we play a healthy amount of too.
Said puck sliding down said shuffleboard table:
So a good part of our night consisted of highly competitive game-playing. And of picture-taking. Perhaps you have observed the same thing I have when there’s a great deal of photos being snapped on a night out. When a camera is pointed their way, girls do this:

Smile, perhaps hug, and act perfectly normal. Boys do this:

Case in point. Dave gets really bored with picture-taking, so he likes to snap “candids” of us girls, which translates to “highly unflattering unposed shots”:
Between the creative pictures and winning shuffleboard, it was a good night for Dave. And since I had to turn down his offer of breakfast-making yesterday to meet my parents for lunch, he remade his specialty for me this morning (aw):

That may just look like a regular old pan of scrambled eggs, but behold the secret ingredient:

Habanero hot sauce, PLUS buffalo sauce, PLUS ham and shredded cheddar cheese, and you have a total egg masterpiece. The finished product:

Fluffly, cheesy, flavorful eggs, with dry wheat toast. Perfect. It was pretty filling, and the rest of my eats today were just snacky because I never got too hungry again.
I had a platter of carrots and almond butter in the afternoon, plus a clementine. Then I heated up a blueberry muffin left over from a baggie my mom brought me (thanks, Mom!) and spread MORE almond butter (ahhh) on top instead of butter:

Yum. And my sweet tooth continued to prevail today with, um, dinner (for lack of a better term):

TCBY frozen yogurt, with crumbled-up Reese cups on top. Yum again. A sophisticated evening meal, no? And the nutritional stats aren’t bad at all:

I’m now sitting on the couch, watching a special on 20 years of The Simpsons. I do not share Dave’s enthusiasm. But—ooh—a preview just came on for the movie Valentine’s Day, starring Julia Roberts, which makes this very long special totally worth it.
I think people either love or can’t stand Julia Roberts. I appreciate her rom com efforts whole-heartedly, and even though she has played the same character about 57 times, I very much enjoy that character.
P.S. Here is your random factoid of the day. You ready?
When my sister and I were little and shared a room, we used to lay awake and chat, like all sisters do. But instead of whispering about boys and how to sneak out the window, we described food to each other. Seriously. We would take turns…our fave was fried chicken. Childhood secret…revealed. Sorry, Cor.
SO I think my fate as a future food blogger was sealed at a very early age.
The end. See you bright and early!

Those scrambled eggs look delicious! Sorry about the surgery
I hope it goes well!!

Looks like a great weekend!! I am so sorry about the dentist…I feel your pain! Everytime I go there I somehow end up staying for 3-4 hours. I just don’t get it!!
Umm…I’ve had the cheese fries at Outback…so good, but we won’t even talk about how bad they are for you!!!
Hot sauce on EVEYRTHING is where it’s at ;]
I remember that bedroom you used to chat in! And while you and Cor might have talked about food, I always made sure to whisper about boys whenever I slept over! haha I can hear your mom now: “Emily, NO calling boys!!” Ahh, the good old days.
Lol AW I miss those days!!!!
haha my parents have a shuffleboard. It stays in the garage until the summer, and my boyfriend is always the first to suggest bringing it out. He is in LOVE with that thing. He takes it very seriously too. I usually watch from the pool with a glass of wine. Im not a fan (probably because I suck).
I LOVE that you and your sister talked about food at night. Thats so cute. I always wished I had a sister. I got stuck with a brother that wont even speak to me. He may have a legitimate reason, but I still think its stupid.
hahah that childhood secret is probably the cutest/funniest thing ever. so cute!! & omgg the cheesy nacho things look to dieee for. glad you let yourself indulge a bit on the weekends
SUCH an importnat part of life!!

That is so cute about you and your sis!!! I can imagine doing something like that if I had a sister.
[...] also should have stayed in bed because today includes that previously mentioned trip to the dentist. [...]
I used to be addicted to nachos. Oh the cheese and chips and more cheese. Hope your dental appt goes ok.
[...] continued full steam ahead with lunch on Sunday. We ended up at Champp’s (I manage to end up back there a LOT )—and started with a crab bread [...]
