Ahhh…Saturday :). I am currently sitting in Starbucks, enjoying some jazzy elevator music and trying to redeem myself for being a delinquent blogger. Chicago was kind of a whirlwind, but so much fun!
I arrived Wed night after a tense drive in the snow…I am an awful driver. There’s no arguing with that. I clutched the wheel like a grandma and drove slow enough to annoy everyone else on the interstate, but I made it! Just in time for the most intense game of bar trivia ever:
That’s my friend Dan, calling on all of his brain power to answer the most ridiculously obscure question about some German word. He must not have squeezed his brain hard enough, because we came in 16 out of 18 teams. How embarrassing. We consoled ourselves with this:
Beer…good for the soul :). I’m convinced the reason we lost trivia was because we got cheated out of the Britney Spears category they were supposed to have…turns out it’s next week. No justice in the world.
The next morning we woke up completely starving (or at least I did). So we braved the 18 degrees (Midwest, I hate you) and headed to this great brunch place:
Unfortunately, there was a half-hour wait, but we grumbled about it an appropriate amount, then entertained ourselves at Starbucks. It was definitely worth the wait! I was craving something cheesy, so I ordered this:
An egg-white omelet with mushrooms, spinach, and havarti cheese…it was SO good! I gave away most of the potatoes to Dan, the human garbage disposal, and ate most of the omelet. I think this place is mainly known for its sweet stuff, like RED VELVET PANCAKES. Check out the menu:
The Bongo Room was trendy and cute (and kinda expensive…bummer) and a great way to start the day. The rest of the day was spent getting ready for NYE! Some people hate NYE and think it’s overrated…I like it, personally. I think it’s pretty much like anything else–it is what you make it! And we made it very fun. 🙂
We started the evening with a couple of bottles of champagne and some store-bought appetizers that kind of disappeared before I could take a picture…sorry! Then we headed to a combination bar, bowling alley, and pool hall!
I am atrocious at bowling, but guess what? If you stuff a dollar into the bowling ball then send it down the lane, these guys come out and knock the pins down for you…not kidding. How awesome is that? So I basically used up all the cash in my wallet (whoops) to ensure a good bowling score. Hehe. I don’t regret it.
My friend Jen and her fine bowling form:
Me and Dave at the beginning of the night (yes, he’s strangely holding a package of fruit gummies):
My pink tights and bowling shoes! Hehe.
Getting close to midnight!
So NYE 2009/2010 was a success! 🙂 We had a big, happy group of people and plenty of festive drinks, eats, and fun. And my absolute favorite part of the evening (I’m not ashamed) was when they played “Party in the USA” and all the girls danced insanely and all the guys stared at us in dismay. (You KNOW you love that song too.)
I have to say though, I’m kind of excited to be home and get back into a normal routine. I definitely ate a lot of crap this week, sadly, and am looking forward to getting back to a more healthy and steady eating routine. Enter the mecca of healthy goodness, Trader Joe’s:
I went shopping at TJ’s today, along with the entire rest of the state of Indiana. Between getting almost trampled by wild people trying to make it to the samples before they ran out, I got a lot of good stuff! Basics like spinach, veggies, cheese, multigrain rye bread, clementines, organic bananas, and the star of the trip:
Come back tomorrow for an overview of my New Year’s resolutions! It’s kind of trendy to not make/not believe in them, but I still like them. I could use plenty of improvements :). What about you?
