Good morning! Hope you had a great weekend! As usual here in Indiana, the hot sun is beating down from a bright blue sky, and I’m sitting on the sandy beach, getting a glorious tan and sipping a frosty marga—oh wait, that was just my dream. Damn. I should have stayed in bed.
I also should have stayed in bed because today includes that previously mentioned trip to the dentist. Sigh.
But, Monday isn’t a total loss, because I made a giant bowl of hot banana oats for breakfast! Sad story about yesterday: I went to a total of four different grocery stores, looking for canned pumpkin to make oatmeal with, and none of them had it. Apparently the strange pumpkin shortage that gripped the nation in the fall is still going strong.
Ok. I don’t quite get it, because they’re just pumpkins. I’m pretty sure they didn’t up and disappear from Earth. But despite that knowledge, I couldn’t find any. So regular old banana oatmeal it was today:
One addition to the normal bowl: I added a heaping spoonful of flax seed before microwaving:
Flax seed has many health benefits, including lowering your blood pressure, total cholesterol levels, and “bad cholesterol” (LDL) levels. It also contains tons of omega 3 fatty acid, which can lower your risk for a heart attack. In addition, it can help prevent breast cancer and is a powerful source of antioxidants–in addition to being an excellent source of fiber. (Its health benefits are similar to those of salmon.)
Don’t I sound just like Wikipedia? Maybe that’s because that’s where I got it from. I didn’t plagiarize, I swear.
Moving on to lunch:
A pretty typical weekday lunch featuring Dr. Krackers and Laughing Cow, plus a clementine (they’re almost gone, I swear) and a Cashew Cookie LaraBar:
My lunch is a natural at this modeling thing:
I thought you might want to see the nutrition stats of a LaraBar. It’s a little high in fat/calories, but it’s all fruit and nuts–no other ingredients! Literally, the only ingredients in this bar are dates and cashews (I learned about the awesomely short ingredients list in LaraBars from Kristin, and have been eating them ever since)! Here you go:
Well, I’m off to work and then my dentist appointment! Eeeek. I’m a total baby about the dentist.
Have a happy Monday!
I was totally jealous reading the first sentence….you took me away on a little “holiday” of my own in my mind! Only to read that it was a dream…darn it 🙂
I love larabars especially the peanutbutter and jelly ones!
Have a great day
Good luck at the dentist..eeek!
I live in the Caribbean and it is freezing here today! I am not kidding. I went out this morning in a fleece, jeans and Uggs! It is COLD!
Try not to stress about the dentist. When you stress about something it makes things seem worse.
Your breakfast looked delicious!
Good luck at the dentist! At least you started the day off with a great breakfast!
Ok, I am ticked about the canned pumpkin situation too. I can’t find them anywhere. I managed to find the pumpkin pie filling (with the sugar and spices) but no plain pumpkin. What gives???? People are only allowed canned pumpkin in November?
yum, i love lara bars. they don’t fill me up like cliff bars but sometimes that’s just what i need. the ingredients list cannot be beat!

i’m scared of the dentist too! i hope it goes well. thanks for stopping by my blog. your breakfast looks delish. i love larabars but they are quite high in fat (the good kind), like you mentioned. they’re more of a meal-replacement for me instead of a lighter snack. you seem to do that too. have a great day!
I tried to find pumpkin all last spring and summer with no luck. :(. I think it’s normal. 😦
Oh I completely understand about the dentist….that is my LEAST favorite doctor to go see. For some reason having someone dig around in my mouth just kind of grosses me out! haha!
Good luck at the dentist! I HATE the dentist, they always tell me Im doing something wrong, and yet Ive never had a cavity. Give me advice when what Im doing stops working, until then SHUT IT! lol it really irritates me.
Ahhh good luck @ the dentist, that is no fun!! Especially 4hours….I must tell you I feel as if I log onto Twitter now a days just to read your blogs…hahaha! I started day 1 of my diet, and my diet is pretty much everything you ate last week, hahahaha….I found the Lara bars, I got the cashew cookie and the cherry pie….I love these little clementines…I still cant find the Dr. Krackers…I hate to drive 20 min to Trader Joes for some Almond Butter and Dr. Krackers, but its looking like Im going to have to 😦
Good luck at the dentist…my least favorite place to go! And don’t you just LOVE Larabars…cashew cookie is delicious…and peanut butter cookie…oh my goodness delicious. Have a fabulous Monday girlie!
Good luck at the dentist!
I also had a Larabar as part of my lunch – the PB&J one, which I finally tracked down this weekend. They’re so good!

I just found a can of pumpkin in my pantry yesterday. I guess I should savor it, it might be my last for a while!
Hope your dentist appointment went well. Well, as well as can be expected at the dentist. Thank you for visiting my blog and leaving such a sweet comment! I enjoy reading yours! Have you tried going to a Walgreens or CVS to look for pumpkins? Sounds crazy, but I’ve seen some on the shelves! Good luck with your pumpkin search!
Crazy no pumpkin. I cooked some from October and blended it and froze it in ziploc bags. It makes for easy, small servings. Some of the other winter squashes taste so similar, they would work to. 🙂
Wait, WHAT?! Is this pumpkin thing for real? My grocery store didn’t have any yesterday either, but I didn’t think much of it. I’m so confused! How did I not hear about this?!
